After attending the 2012 Assen TT, where I showed Gino Rea the portraits I had done of him, I left with the idea to try doing even more racer portraits, and so, MotoGP-Art was born.
Given that I usually airbrush custom helmet and motorcycles under the name BraveArt Graphics, MotoGP-Art allows me yet another way to combine my two passions of bikes and painting, .
Having tried out my new skills, learned from attending the portrait course given by Dru Blair and Eddy Wouters, with the Gino portraits, I set about choosing a few more famous racers I admire, past and present, to portray with my airbrush.

All of my work, including on portraits and helmets, are *100% PAINT - NO STICKERS* and the desired effect, whether it be the background, movement or realism effects are all created using the right combination of sketching, cutting and masking, erasers and blades and of course, the paint and layers of clear coat.

BARRY SHEENE - A LEGEND!
The next portrait that I just had to do, was one of the legendary, Mr. Barry Sheene. The posters I had of him on my wall as a kid, inspired my early passion for motorbikes and racing. Then, while at the Assen TT, I met Barry's best mate , Mr. Steve Parrish, who very kindly pointed me in the right direction, so I quickly set about starting my tribute portrait to this great racing champion of my younger years. This was also the first portrait in which I would be doing the face in detail, and not making it vaguely visible behind a dark visor, so I had to focus all my skills that I had learned from the realism portrait course. I was really happy with the end result and was able to show it to Steve on meeting him again at the Eext Historic MotoGP races in the Netherlands. I felt truly honoured when he said that I had really captured Barry's eyes well. It was the best compliment about my work that I could have had. Cheers Steve! |
Thanks for your help in making this portrait possible, Steve, and of course, Thanks for all the inspiration, Barry! |
